Emily Fergason, Marketer
EDITOR’S NOTE:
“Just launched a new podcast,” said Dan. “Come on?”
“Sure!” I said. “Thanks for thinking of me.”
“Of course,” he said. “Yeh, it’s me and Ferg.”
“Ferg?”
“Emily Fergason,” he said. “She’s awesome. You guys’ll hit it off.”
Emily co-hosts the Marketing Millennial Podcast with great marketer and all-around nice guy, Dan Murray. She’s an excellent host and a thoughtful person and Dan was right, we did hit it off. I’m glad we met. :)
And now I’m very happy she agreed to come on for a Micro-Interview.
In just 179 words, she shares:
How to create room for new opportunities, professional and otherwise…
The true work of a social media manager…
The consequences of losing your ego…
And more…
Enjoy!
Thank you, Emily.
Let’s get started:
1) “What’s your work routine?”
Coffee. Candle. Connect with co-workers. Review metrics. Make social magic!
2) “What do you know about your work now that you wish you’d known when you first started?”
Not everyone will understand the value of social media, but everyone understands quality content. It's my job to build the bridge, even if it's a daunting task at times.
3) “What did your biggest professional failure teach you?”
Growth still comes from experiences, even the "bad" ones.
Acknowledging those mistakes and owning up to them can't change time, but it creates room for new opportunities.
4) “What’s the #1 thing that has helped you shorten your craft’s learning curve?”
Networking with people in similar industries and positions.
Once I dropped the ego and realized other people may be doing things in a way I could learn from, it made ALL the difference in my work and eagerness to get creative.
5) “What book has helped you the most over your career?”
Lovemarks: The Future Beyond Brand by Kevin Roberts.
6) “And your parting piece of advice?”
Show up.
Show up.
