EDITOR’S NOTE:
Once a strategist for The Agora, Tyler Koenig now works for himself as a copywriting consultant and coach.
I enjoy his videos. They’re short, natural, helpful things, full of persuasion advice.
Now, I hope you enjoy his VGC Micro-Interview, another short, natural, helpful thing.
In only 173 words, you’ll learn:
The importance of a morning routine…
What you should really be studying as a copywriter...
One of his (and my own) favorite books on persuasion...
And more…
Enjoy!
Thank you, Tyler.
Let’s get started:
1) “What’s your work routine?”
I wake up around 5:30, do a workout/studying/email my list routine until 8ish, then eat, then try to work fast and sloppily on projects until I start thinking too much, which is usually around lunch time.
In the afternoons, I refine my slop and knock those less important tasks off my list.
2) “What do you know about your work now that you wish you’d known when you first started?”
Don't let anyone hijack your mornings.
3) “What did your biggest professional failure teach you?”
When someone has to live on your couch for 7 months, they probably aren't going to make a great business partner.
“What’s the #1 thing that has helped you shorten your craft’s learning curve?”
Spending less time studying copywriting, and more time studying how people behave and make decisions.
“What book has helped you the most over your career?”
Pre-Suasion by Robert Cialdini.
“And your parting piece of advice?”
In the words of En Vogue, “Free your mind and the rest will follow.”
