Michael Jordan’s last All-Star game was Kobe Bryant’s first All-Star game.
When asked about the experience in one of his final interviews, Kobe said:
“It was a rough couple of years for me, coming into the league. Because at the time, the league was so much older. It’s not as young as it is today. So nobody was really thinking much of me.”
“And at that point, Michael provided a lot of guidance for me,” Kobe said. “Like, I had a question about how he shot his turnaround shots… and he gave me a great, detailed answer. But on top of that he said, ‘If you ever need anything, give me a call.’”
Fact is, our mentors choose us.
“What you get from me is from him,” Kobe said about Michael. “I don’t get five championships without him. ‘Cause he guided me so much and gave me so much great advice.”
Whether it’s basketball, writing, copywriting, marketing, or anything else that takes time and persistence to excel at, our mentors choose us.
