How to make your writing better overnight
If you're ever unsure about something ...
Put some time and distance between yourself and whatever has you in doubt.
Humans acclimate. We adapt. That ability is what we're known for.
Therefore, putting space between yourself and a relationship, a project, a lifestyle (anything, really) will give you a renewed, objective perspective.
So why not put some time and distance between yourself and your writing?
Here's a quick trick ...
The Overnight Rule:
When I finish writing something, I never publish it immediately. I don't even show anyone.
I wait.
I wait about 12 hours, usually overnight, until the draft is out of my head. Only then do I sit down to make a final round of edits.
I always find something:
A typo ...
A better word ...
An opportunity to be bolder, clearer, or more compelling ...
It's simple and effective, truly.
You're a good writer.
But nobody's perfect. So go ahead, sleep on that draft.
Come morning you'll be happy you did.
