It was me…
And Hannah Tow.
And Devin Pickell.
And Bridget Poetker.
And Anastasia Masters.
And Maddison McDonnell.
(There were others, too.)
We were all on a boat, standing in a circle, floating down the Chicago river. It was our annual G2 Marketing team outing. I had a beer in my hand.
“Cheers!” somebody said.
“CHEERS!!” everybody said.
I don’t remember the toast before we all clinked. The words are lost. But I remember the feelings I felt.
Happiness, gratitude, pride. Pride.
That day on the boat, I think we all felt it. Because we were building something exciting and meaningful in G2 dot com.
And we still are.
Except now, and moving forward, we have to do it without Hannah and Bridget, without Devin and Madison and Anastasia.
Recently, G2 had to — reluctantly, painfully — let go of these talented marketers, writers, and SEOs because of the crisis.
All excellent in their fields.
The day it happened, I was talking to a colleague:
“I’m upset,” I said. “Really upset.”
“Me too,” he said. “But they should get scooped up fast. They’re too good.”
“Yeh,” I said. “They are.”
